Celtics Draft Pick Drew Hilariously Mixed Reviews After Selection
I can’t even begin to tell you whether or not Hugo González will be good for the Boston Celtics.
ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Tankathon, however, each made strong projections after he was taken with the No. 28 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft… though they ended up on the complete opposite ends of the spectrum.
Givony, the leading expert in all things basketball draft, loves the selection, calling it “one of the biggest steals” of the draft. Givony also reports the 19-year-old will be joining the squad for the 2025-26 season — so this isn’t one of those “draft-and-stash” situations — he could have an opportunity to contribute immediately.
Tankathon didn’t exactly scout the player. It’s all about a computer model that compares his statistics and physical attributes to others players in the class and tells you where his strengths and weaknesses are, which didn’t do the kid any favors. Tankathon lists his one “positive” attribute as his age during the draft, with things like… literally everything else falling into the “negative” category.
It’s pretty funny, if not a bit worrisome for fans of the C’s.
González, who stands at 6-foot-7 and weighs 205 pounds, averaged 5.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game for Real Madrid last season and is known for playing with great energy and athleticism. The Celtics can certainly work with that, it’s just a matter of if they can fine tune his skills enough to make him a legitimate difference maker.
