Liverpool break transfer record again with Milos Kerkez Capture
Liverpool have confirmed the signature of left-back Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth.
The Hungary international becomes the Reds’ fourth signing this summer, joining Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Armin Pecsi.
Liverpool reached an agreement with Bournemouth to sign the full-back for £40 million – a club record fee for a full-back.
Frimpong briefly held the record after joining for £29.6m from Bayer Leverkusen earlier in this transfer window.
Kerkez has signed a long-term contract with Liverpool and is expected to join the team for their pre-season tour starting next month.
The Hungarian full-back has expressed his delight with a move to Anfield and is looking forward to training with his new teammates.
“I’m really happy,” he told Liverpoolfc.com
“It’s a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, the biggest club in England. I’m just really, really happy and excited.
“After this, I’ll go home and in my hometown enjoy a few days, and then I can’t really wait to come back and put the training kit on and start to train and prepare for the season.”
Kerkez impressed for the Cherries last season, scoring two goals and providing six assists in the Premier League – more than Andrew Robertson managed.
The 21-year-old is considered a long-term successor to Robertson, who has struggled with form over the past year.
Robertson has been linked with a move to Spanish side Atletico Madrid, but he has yet to decide whether to leave Anfield.
Should the Scotland international stay, Kostas Tsimikas could depart, leaving Robertson and Kerkez to compete for a place in the starting line-up.
