Bruins, Flyers Reportedly In Battle For 2025 NHL Draft Prospects
The Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins are rivals on the ice, and will be when it comes to the 2025 NHL Draft.
The Athletic’s Scott Wheeler reports the two teams are looking at the same three prospects.
Many reports have the Bruins taking local college prospect James Hagens at No.7, but reportedly the Flyers, who are picking at No. 6, are also looking at Hagens.
The Boston College forward has gone up and down the draft board, at one point being projected to go No. 1. With his drop in production with the Eagles, Hagens projects in the No. 5 to No. 7 range.
With BC, the 5-foot-11, 178-pound forward had 11 goals and 26 assists for 37 points.
The Bruins are also reportedly looking at Brady Martin and Roger McQueen, players the Flyers are eyeing.
Martin has totaled 72 points in 57 games for the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. Standing at 6-foot, 186-pound, the center plays a solid two-way game that Boston could benefit from.
McQueen is known as the 2025 NHL Draft’s biggest risk, but also the biggest upside swing. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound center had 20 points in 17 games with the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings but a back issue shortened his season.
With Philadelphia looking at the same players as Boston, Wheeler says the Bruins may be interested in moving up in the draft to get the player they want. The last time Boston had a top five pick in a draft was in 2010 when they selected Tyler Seguin at No. 2.
If the Bruins do want to move up in the draft, they have to move quick with others team looking for a top five pick.
The 2025 NHL Draft is set for Friday at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The first round can be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+.
