Red Sox Veteran Remaining Resilient Amid Losing Streak

The Boston Red Sox need to start winning. At the halfway point of the season, they’re one game under .500, and 2 1/2 back of the American League Wild Card.

One-run and extra-inning losses have been an Achilles heel for the team, and Tuesday was no exception. Los Angeles Angels second baseman Christian Moore hit two home runs, including a walk-off in the tenth inning, to beat the Red Sox 3-2.

Shortstop Trevor Story spoke to the media after the game about the frustrating loss.

“Losing isn’t fun,” Story said, as seen on the NESN postgame coverage. “We’re not gonna give up. We know the type of team we have.”

After a down month in May, Story has started to swing the bat better in June. Through 21 games, he’s hitting .275 with four home runs and four doubles. He’s still striking out at a high rate, but whiffs will likely always be part of his profile at the plate.

Story’s defensive work has also been solid. He hasn’t been charged with an error since May 10

The impending return of Alex Bregman should provide a lift both offensively and defensively. Still, the longer they wait, the more difficult it will become to climb back into a playoff position.
