Celtics Rumors: How Boston Plans To Proceed After Jrue Holiday Deal
The Boston Celtics got an early start on the offseason with Brad Stevens making a big trade on Monday night.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the Celtics traded Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons and two second-round picks. But, this is just the start for Boston.
Charania followed it up by reporting the Celtics are still engaged in numerous other trade talks about some of their other players.
“An extremely active offseason begins for the Celtics with the trade of Jrue Holiday, who played a critical role in Boston’s 2024 NBA championship. The Celtics remain engaged in trade talks surrounding multiple key players on the roster, sources said,” he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Celtics are expected to look a lot different when the 2025 season begins, with Jayson Tatum now sidelined indefinitely due to a torn Achilles tendon he suffered in the NBA playoffs. With Tatum out and Holiday on his way to the Trail Blazers, that’s two key members of the 2024 NBA Championship team that Boston will be without next season.
And the expectation is that a few others will also not be out there when the team returns to the court.
There has even been speculation that the Celtics could trade star Jaylen Brown, whom they signed to a five-year contract extension worth up to $304 million, which will keep him in Boston through the 2028-29 season. So, that’s one possibility, but there’s plenty of talent on the roster to make some other shocking moves.
