‘I’m a big admirer’: Manager wants to re-sign talented Man United midfielder
Rotherham United manager Matt Hamshaw has admitted wanting to re-sign Manchester United’s talented midfielder Dan Gore.
Gore spent the second half of last season on loan with Rotherham but, due to injuries, made only three appearances for the club.
The 20-year-old was impressive on his debut, registering an assist in a 2-1 defeat at Birmingham City.
He suffered a foot injury before a clash with Shrewsbury Town in early February and had to return to United for treatment.
Gore did not return to action until the penultimate league game against Stevenage.
Hamshaw, who took over as Rotherham’s manager while the midfielder was injured, wants the club to re-sign him this summer despite the competition they face to secure his services.
He told the Rotherham Advertiser: “I know there is competition for him because he is highly rated at Manchester United and has been in and around their first team. I also know that their manager likes him.
“I’m well aware there will probably be other interest. There is a foreign market open now to Manchester United and English players, and we will probably have a bit of competition, but if we could get him, it would be amazing.
“Any deal has to be right for the club. We won’t go out of our means to do something but at the same time if I can get him then I know the chairman will back me on that one.
“I’m a big admirer of Dan. If I can get him, great. If I can’t then I can’t.”
Championship side Blackburn Rovers have also been linked with the United youngster.
Gore should make another loan move to Rotherham
Given Hamshaw’s interest and Gore’s current situation at United, returning to Rotherham could benefit the former England youth international.
The young midfielder would struggle to get more game time at United next season.
With stakes high, manager Ruben Amorim is expected to give more minutes to the experienced players as he seeks to have a successful first full season at the club.
Also, the signing of Matheus Cunha and the potential arrival of Bryan Mbeumo would limit Gore’s chances of featuring regularly.
Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to play in the number 10 roles, which is Gore’s most suitable position in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 set-up.
However, at Rotherham, Gore would be given more game time, having earned the trust of the club’s manager. Playing regularly would help him become a better player.
Should he impress with the League One outfit, he can earn a new deal at Man United and fight for a place in the team for the 2026/2027 season.
