Rafael Devers Reached Career Milestone With Home Run Against Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox witnessed a familiar sight to everyone else in MLB when Rafael Devers touched them all.

During his fifth game with the San Francisco Giants, Devers took Brayan Bello deep for a two-run shot. His first home run since the blockbuster trade fueled San Francisco’s 3-2 win over the star slugger’s former team.

Of course, it also marked the first time Devers homered against the Red Sox. The 28-year-old crushed 215 long balls in a Boston uniform, which ranks 10th on the franchise’s all-time leaderboard.

That moment forced the Red Sox to face a reality the rest of the game had already experienced. The Boston Globe’s Tim Healey noted that Devers has now homered against all 30 MLB teams.

Devers ended his decorated Red Sox tenure by demolishing his 31st home run against the New York Yankees, more than he’s tallied against any other organization. He’ll look to establish the same long-term dominance over his new division foes.

While he has four home runs in nine games apiece against the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres, Devers has only one each versus the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks. The same goes for the Giants, Milwaukee Brewers, and Pittsburgh Pirates, but Devers wields a career .290/.368/.561 slash line in interleague play.

Two years ago, Mookie Betts achieved the same feat when homering against Boston with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Marcell Ozuna, Giancarlo Stanton, Bryce Harper, Juan Soto, and Shohei Ohtani joined the list of players to homer against all 30 teams last year.

The Red Sox enjoyed Devers’ steady presence in the heart of their lineup since his 2017 arrival before sending him to San Francisco for a four-player package. Boston remains firmly in the playoff picture, having won eight of its last 10 games, but Devers takes on a new postseason pursuit as the Giants compete in the closer-than-anticipated National League West.

Devers gets one more chance to face his old team when the Giants host the Red Sox on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.
