Bruins Add New Coach To Round Out Marco Sturm’s Staff For 2025-26

The Boston Bruins rounded out its coaching staff under new head coach Marco Sturm, adding Steve Spott as an assistant coach, the team announced in a press release on Friday.

Spott is joining assistant coaches Jay Leach and Chris Kelly, along with goaltending coach Bob Essensa for the 2025-26 season.

“I’m incredibly excited and honored to join the Boston Bruins organization,” Spott said. “Being part of an Original Six franchise with such a proud history and tradition means a great deal to me and my family. The opportunity to work alongside Marco and the rest of this coaching staff, in front of one of the most passionate fan bases in hockey, is something I’m truly grateful for, and I can’t wait to get started.”

The 57-year-old has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach with the Dallas Stars under head coach Peter DeBoer. In that time, he helped the Stars to three straight Western Conference Final appearances.

With Dallas, Spott’s main focus was on their power play, which ranked at No.7 in the NHL with a 23.7 success rate.

Before working with the Stars, he also was an assistant coach for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, San Jose Sharks and Toronto Maple Leafs. Before moving to the NHL, he was the head coach of the Toronto Marlies, the Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate team.

“I’m thrilled to add Steve Spott to our coaching staff, and also welcome him, his wife Lisa and their children, Tyler and Emma, to Boston.” Sturm said. “Steve is a passionate teacher, a strong communicator, and brings great structure and detail to everything he does. His experience, especially on special teams, will be a major asset for our group and for the Bruins moving forward.”

The new coaching staff will have a tough task at hand to turn around the Bruins after a hard 2024-25 season. With a strong coaching staff going into the new season, Boston could find some improvements.
