Tottenham Hotspur do not intend to buckle to £25m transfer interest from AC Milan this summer
Reports linking Guglielmo Vicario with a move back to Serie A have intensified, but fresh updates now suggest that Tottenham are determined to hold on to their number one.
It was reported a few days ago that one of Tottenham Hotspur’s most senior players, Guglielmo Vicario, is attracting interest from elsewhere.
Italian side AC Milan were said to have held a meeting with agent Gabriele Giuffrida, who represents Vicario, and it was alleged that the Tottenham number one was one of the few names discussed.
Of course, Vicario is no stranger to Italian football, as the 28-year-old shot-stopper used to ply his trade there before sealing a move to Tottenham, where he has become the club’s number one, replacing former captain Hugo Lloris.
AC Milan want Guglielmo Vicario but so do Tottenham
It was also revealed later that Vicario, who has spent two seasons at Tottenham since his move from Italy, is now top of the list for AC Milan, who believe Vicario would be an ideal replacement for the outgoing Mike Maignan. Tottenham allegedly value Vicario at more than £25.5m this summer.
It is claimed that while Milan’s preferred target is Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Tottenham number one is seen as one of the best alternatives on their shortlist should they miss out on their main target, with Milan’s change in management making it more likely that they move for the former Empoli man.
Journalist Tom Barclay of The Sun has now come out to pour cold water on reports linking Vicario with a move away from Tottenham. The journalist has stated that Spurs are not looking to sell their first-choice goalkeeper, despite interest from AC Milan.
In a tweet on X, he wrote: “Understand Spurs not looking to sell goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario this summer, amid rumours of AC Milan interest.”
Why Spurs must keep Guglielmo Vicario this summer
Of course, selling Vicario this summer would leave Tottenham in a tricky spot, as they would have to secure a replacement for the Italian.
While the 28-year-old has the odd mistake in him, he was still very crucial in Spurs’ Europa League triumph, where he made a couple of key saves, particularly from Shaw in the dying moments of their final clash, to keep Tottenham in the lead.
Indeed, Vicario’s underlying stats from the Europa League final suggest he was one of Spurs’ best players on the night, and it would be a huge blow for Thomas Frank if he were to be sold this summer.
