Cerro Porteno starlet poised to join Man Utd next month, long-term contract agreed - report
Paraguayan wonderkid Diego Leon will be joining Manchester United on July 1, according to VSports Team.
The Red Devils agreed a pre-agreement to sign the young left-back last winter following a series of medical tests.
VSports Team now reveal that he will officially join the Red Devils from July 1, having signed a five-year contract.
Leon looks an exciting young prospect
United could not sign the teenager during the winter transfer window as he was still 17.
According to Brexit rules, Premier League clubs are not allowed to register under-age foreign players.
Hence, a pre-agreement was the best solution so that United don’t miss out on his signature.
Leon is still inexperienced at the top level with only 33 senior appearances for Porteno.
However, the youngster has shown glimpses of his quality at the Paraguayan outfit.
He has won over four duels per game this season with 2.7 recoveries and 2.6 clearances.
The left-back has made more than one successful tackle per outing for his boyhood club.
Leon still needs to improve on his ball control which should come with age and experience.
His arrival at United could lead to questions over the immediate future of Harry Amass.
Amass proved a decent deputy for Patrick Dorgu in the left wing-back position earlier this year.
If Leon were to be integrated into the senior squad, Amass could be loaned out next season to secure valuable first-team experience.
The arrival of the youngster could also pave the way for the permanent transfer of Tyrell Malacia.
The Dutch ace spent the back end of last season on loan with PSV Eindhoven, and could leave the Red Devils for good this summer.
