Police Reportedly Say Antonio Brown Isn’t On Run Despite Overseas Travels
Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for former NFL receiver Antonio Brown, and the Miami Herald provided an update on Tuesday about where things stand.
Brown has reportedly “been traveling in the Middle East — but police don’t consider him on the run.”
“We’re not going to be sending anybody there,” Miami Police chief Manny Morales told the Herald on Monday. They added that they have been in contact with Brown’s attorney and plan to take him into custody when he returns to Florida.
On June 12, The Washington Post published a story after obtaining a copy of the warrant, which “lists a charge of attempted murder with a firearm and calls for Brown to post a $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest pending trial.”
The incident allegedly occurred on May 16 at a boxing event, where officers responded to a report of gunshots. An off-duty officer working security saw Brown “involved in a physical altercation with another man.”
“Patrons in the parking lot told officers that Brown was the shooter, according to the warrant, which also states that Brown had no weapon on him when officers patted him down,” The Post’s David Ovalle wrote. “Investigators found two spent shell casings and an empty gun holster,” according to the warrant.
He was detained but not arrested that night after no firearms were found on him. The Herald added that “Brown was released because the man shot, later identified as (Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu), was no longer at the venue.”
Cellphone video later showed that Brown chased Nantambu and fired two shots from close range.
“Detectives later interviewed Nantambu, who said he tried to leave after Brown attacked him,” the Herald wrote. “But Brown, he asserted, chased him with a gun and fired at him — possibly grazing his neck.”
