Man United Women target Champions League winner, face competition from Chelsea, Arsenal
Manchester United Women are keen on signing Manchester City winger Chloe Kelly, according to Sky Sports.
The Mancunian giants have long been interested in Kelly. They attempted to sign her in January, but she decided to join Arsenal.
The England international helped the north London side win the Women’s Champions League, beating Spanish champions Barcelona.
Her contract with City ends this month, and United are one of the sides interested in getting the winger’s signature as a free agent.
However, they face stiff competition from Chelsea and Arsenal to sign the 27-year-old forward. She also has suitors elsewhere in Europe and in the United States.
Having impressed with the Gunners last term, she has granted them ‘a period of exclusivity’ to sign her permanently – implying that she prefers a move to the club.
She wants to sign a three-year contract with Arsenal but there is a gap between both parties on the finances. However, they remain hopeful that a deal will be agreed.
Kelly will only listen to other teams if a compromise cannot be found with the Gunners.
Signing the English forward will represent a big coup for United, given the competition for her signature. Her experience and quality would also be valuable to the squad.
Man United must reinforce their squad with the addition of players like Kelly this summer after enjoying success last term.
They finished third in the Women’s Super League, securing qualification for the Champions League for the second consecutive season.
Marc Skinner’s side reached the final of the Women’s FA Cup but were beaten 3-0 by league champions Chelsea.
The Red Devils also participated in the maiden edition of the World Sevens football tournament. They reached the final but lost to German champions Bayern Munich.
With their recent progress, club CEO Omar Berrada is confident they can win the league by 2028 alongside the men’s team.
