Aston Villa face real competition from an Italian Serie A side for a winger they have been targeting this summer and the club are ‘monitoring him tonight’.

Unai Emery is looking for Aston Villa to strengthen his squad over the course of what is expected to be a difficult summer transfer window, with PSR rules to stay within.

Villa want a centre-back, with Axel Disasi returning to Chelsea, while they will lose final third options as Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio’s respective loans end.

Aston Villa have been showing keen interest in Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez and recently spoke to the Spanish side about him.

The Lions are not the only side interested in the Betis winger though and Serie A outfit Como are also in the mix.

Como have had a scout ‘monitoring him tonight’ during Spain Under-21s meeting with Italy Under-21s, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.

Rodriguez clocked 65 minutes of the match, which ended 1-1.

Aston Villa's last five league finishes

Como managed a finish of tenth in Serie A in the recent season and are aiming to improve next term.

Affording Rodriguez could be an issue though, with Betis having the ability to increase his release clause to €50m and ideally not wanting to lose him.

Aston Villa, it has been suggested, could look to offer Betis players as part of a deal and it remains to be seen if Como could do likewise.

Como also do not have European football to offer to Rodriguez, who played for Betis in the Conference League final against Chelsea.

Aston Villa however have qualified for the Europa League.
