Daniel Levy breaks his silence on Thomas Frank and Tottenham’s 30-man manager shortlist

0 3

Daniel Levy has now broken his silence on the appointment of new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank, after weeks of speculation and intense behind-the-scenes movement at the club.

Tottenham Hotspur have now completed their search for a new manager following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed on Friday, 6 June, after only two seasons as Spurs boss.

Thomas Frank has since been announced as Tottenham’s new manager, after the Lilywhites agreed to sign the Dane from Brentford following his impressive spell at the West London club, where he managed to keep the Bees competitive in the Premier League, guiding them to two top-half finishes in the last three seasons.

The 51-year-old is expected to begin working with immediate effect, as Spurs now prepare for their 2025/26 season after making a few off-the-pitch changes to the club, with pre-season games and transfer planning very much on the horizon.

Daniel Levy speaks on Tottenham appointment of Thomas Frank

Thomas Frank has signed a three-year contract, which is expected to keep him in North London until 2028 – as long as he doesn’t become the latest victim of the Levy axe.

Frank is joined by a few of his trusted backroom staff from Brentford, as Spurs reached an agreement with the West London club after meeting Thomas Frank’s £10 million release clause.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who has been heavily involved in the process of picking the new manager, has finally landed his preferred target and has issued his first official statement on the appointment of the Dane.

Levy has expressed his belief in Thomas Frank, noting that he believes the 51-year-old is the right man for the Spurs job and that he is the one who can take this team forward.

He said (Tottenham Hotspur): “Whenever you have a new coach, it’s always a fresh start. They always have different ideas. But we want to build on the success of winning a trophy last season. The thing that really stood out to me with Thomas – clearly highly intelligent, a great communicator, super human being, plus all the other technical aspects that are important. They really stood out to me, those three requirements.”

Vinai Venkatesham added: “We ran a really thorough process, at speed. We defined 10 characteristics that we think are important to be a successful manager at Tottenham Hotspur.

“We analysed in real detail, through our technical staff, led by Johan Lange, more than 30 candidates. We had a shortlist – we spent a lot of time with the shortlist – and Thomas Frank was absolutely the number one candidate. We could not be more excited to have him join the club.

“I agree with everything Daniel said about his characteristics. Personally, one of the things I am most excited about is that he is an outstanding developer of young players, so I really look forward to seeing what he can do with the squad we have here.”

Why Thomas Frank could be the man to turn things around at Spurs

Indeed, Thomas Frank is also very much respected by his fellow managerial peers, as Pep Guardiola of Manchester City was quick to hand out praise to the Dane after the Citizens beat Brentford 2-1 back in September.

The Spaniard, despite winning, highlighted how Frank’s teams are hard to play against, given that they can mix their game up in terms of how they press, play out and also go long when needed.

The Manchester City boss also stated that it was only a matter of time before Thomas Frank secured a move to a top side in Europe, and his predictions have now come true, following the Dane’s switch from Brentford to Champions League side Spurs.

The Tottenham higher-ups will now be hoping that the Danish manager can keep the Lilywhites competitive in the Premier League, following Postecoglou’s abysmal showing last season, where Spurs finished 17th, losing 22 out of their 38 matches.
