Alex Cora Reveals Rafael Devers’ Immediate Reaction To Trade
The Boston Red Sox shocked the baseball world when they traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.
Yes, that includes… well, themselves.
Devers had just homered in the finale of a sweep against the New York Yankees, which came about two hours before news broke. Boston, celebrating five consecutive victories against their fiercest rival, hopped aboard a charter flight that was scheduled to take everyone — including the disgruntled slugger — to the other side of the country to kick off a three-city road trip.
Devers would be taking a separate flight, though, as he was pulled off the team plane and informed of the deal. Red Sox manager Alex Cora revealed his reaction when speaking with media members on Monday, and it’s about what you’d expect.
“He shook our hands and he took off,” Cora said, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith.
The Red Sox won’t have to wait long to reunite with their statistical leader in batting average (.272), home runs (15) and runs batted in (58), as he’ll be waiting for them at Oracle Park for the start of a three-game series on Friday.
