A club’s supremo has stressed a Southampton star remains on the club’s agenda and further meetings to thrash out a deal will be held.
Under Will Still, Saints are getting ready to tackle the challenge of the Championship, which will mean 46 games and often Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday weeks.
Players are expected to go as Still looks for those up for the battle ahead and one of the stars expected to be sold is striker Paul Onuachu.
The Nigerian striker has been at Saints since the winter of 2023, having paid €21m for him, tying him to a three-and-a-half-year deal.
His stay at St Mary’s has not gone according to plan, as he has only 40 appearances for Southampton so far.
Onuachu was sent out on loan to Trabzonspor in the 2023-24 season and impressed with 21 goal contributions in 25 games for the Black Sea Storm.
The 31-year-old is fully expected to leave Saints this summer and Trabzonspor have been looking to explore a deal to sign the strong frontman.
Trabzonspor coach Faith Tekke has previously made it clear that he hopes they complete Onuachu’s signing soon.
Now the club president Ertugrul Dogan has also kept no secrets about their interest in the Saints striker, and insisted that they are in regular contact with the club for the player.
“Paul Onuachu is on our agenda. We continue to meet”, the 48-year-old said via Turkish outlet Asist Analiz about the Saints forward.
“Hopefully, we will reach an agreement soon.”
Onuachu’s contract does not expire until the summer of the upcoming season and the Black Sea Storm are continuing to make their efforts to sign the Nigerian.
The striker has been looking to make a move to Trabzonspor since last year, and he will hope the move goes through this summer.
