Roman Anthony Had Great Take On Slow Start After Clubbing First Homer
Roman Anthony smacked the first big league homer of his career Monday, a bright spot in what has been a slow start for the Boston Red Sox top prospect.
Regardless of prospect pedigree, an acclimation period to big league pitching is always expected. Through Monday, Anthony is 2-for-21 through eight games with five strikeouts. His first big league hit was a double in his second game, but he clubbed his long-awaited first homer in Seattle.
In the most difficult hitter’s park in the league against an ace in Logan Gilbert, the 21-year-old launched a hanging sinker over the wall in right-center to put the Red Sox up by one in the eventual 2-0 win.
For some young players, especially those who have crushed the ball at every level, not getting immediate results can lead to some pressing. In an admirable display of confidence, Anthony had a straightforward take on his early offensive returns.
“I haven’t felt overmatched,” Anthony said, via The Boston Globe. “I’m not worried about it.”
Anthony will continue finding his footing in the majors Tuesday as Boston continues its series against the Mariners.
