Birmingham City and Norwich City target Louis Oppie could be given an extra reason to stay put at German side Arminia Bielefeld this summer.
The 23-year-old defender is on the books at the North Rhine Westphalia outfit, who he helped to win promotion up to the 2. Bundesliga in the recently concluded campaign.
Oppie’s displays for the Blues did not go unnoticed as he is now attracting attention from clubs in the English Championship.
Newly promoted Birmingham are keen, while Norwich, now under Liam Manning, have also been linked.
Oppie though may have an extra reason to stay where he is this summer and snub a move away from Arminia Bielefeld.
He is currently on holiday in Mykonos with Thaddaus-Monju Momuluh, who is on the books at Hannover, but had a loan spell at Arminia.
The two are good friends and now Arminia are working to snap up Momuluh from Hannover in time for next season, according to the Westfalen Blatt.
That would give Oppie the opportunity to play with his friend next term and the two are likely to have discussed the move while on holiday.
Arminia won the 3. Liga in Germany in the recent season, edging out Dynamo Dresden at the top of the table by two points.
Oppie started his career at Hannover, before making the move to Arminia in 2023.
The 23-year-old turned out in 37 of Arminia’s 38 3. Liga games last season and made a real contribution going forward.
He made 12 goal contributions, consisting of three goals and nine assists, but was also booked on nine occasions.
Primarily a left-back, Oppie is also able to operate further down the left flank as a left-sided midfielder if needed.
