Man United youngster receives ‘Special Award' at youth tournament
Manchester United youngster Chido Obi received the ‘Special Award’ at the prestigious Maurice Revello Tournament in Toulon, France (via the club’s official website).
The award is given in addition to the Player of the Tournament, which France forward Steve Ngoura received.
The young striker scored two goals and provided an assist for Denmark U20s, who finished third in the competition.
He registered his first goal involvement in the 3-3 draw with Mexico in their opening game, setting up Emil Rohd Schlichting’s first goal in the fixture.
Obi got his first goal against Congo, powering the ball home with a right-footed shot from outside the penalty area.
The 17-year-old scored his second goal in their 3-0 win over Japan, dispossessing the goalkeeper before putting the ball into the empty net.
His exploits helped Denmark book a place in the semi-final where they lost 4-3 to Saudi Arabia.
They beat Mexico in the third place, but the United striker was an unused substitute in the game.
The Danish youngster joins some of his senior team-mates in impressing at the tournament.
Alejandro Garnacho was named the Revelation of the Tournament in the 2022 edition, while new signing Matheus Cunha received the Player of the Tournament award in 2019.
Midfielder Sekou Kone also featured for Mali in the competition. He provided an assist for the African side who were knocked out in the group stages.
Obi made giant strides in his development at United last term, starring for the academy before making his first team debut.
The former Arsenal starlet debuted against Tottenham Hotspur in February, becoming United’s third youngest debutant in the Premier League history.
He made his first start against Brentford and has now featured in seven games for Ruben Amorim’s side.
Obi scored twice during the post-season tour, netting both goals in the 3-1 win over the Hong Kong national team.
He is expected to be involved in United’s pre-season preparations.
