Napoli ‘are ahead at the moment’ in the race to sign Liverpool hitman Darwin Nunez, with Liverpool‘s demands suggested to be lower than feared.
Liverpool are set to splash big money to bring Florian Wirtz to Anfield this summer, following on from the capture of Jeremie Frimpong.
Milos Kerkez is tipped to also come through the door, while the Reds will also look to add another striker, with Hugo Ekitike one possible option; Ekitike is aware Liverpool will seek to sell first before making a move though.
One player the Reds do want to offload is Nunez and he has been linked with a host of clubs, including Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.
Napoli though ‘are ahead’ in the race at present, according to Italian outlet Area Napoli.
It is suggested that it was feared Liverpool would want €60m to sell Nunez, but the actual price the Reds would be happy with would be between €45m and €50m.
Napoli feel there would be no issues when it comes to affording the striker’s salary.
It is unclear though when Napoli intend to make a firm move to sign Nunez.
The club could wait for Victor Osimhen to be sold, which would boost their budget and free up funds to sign Nunez.
Liverpool signed Nunez at the same time that Manchester City landed Erling Haaland, but the Reds striker has struggled.
He was not a first choice selection this season under Arne Slot as Liverpool comfortably won the Premier League title.
Now Nunez will need to consider which club offer him the best environment to relaunch his career and get back amongst the goals on a regular basis, which he did at previous club Benfica.
For Liverpool, a bidding war for Nunez could help them to cut their losses.
