Blow for Tottenham as long-time midfield target chooses Eintracht Frankfurt instead
Tottenham Hotspur may be about to suffer a major transfer blow as Danish starlet Victor Froholdt, who the Lilywhites are allegedly keen on signing, is now edging closer to a move to a Bundesliga side.
It has been reported over recent days that Thomas Frank is prioritising reinforcing the Tottenham midfield this summer.
Over the last few weeks, various outlets have said that Spurs are long-time admirers of 19-year-old Victor Froholdt, who is making waves in the Danish top-flight and is thought to be valued at around £20m this summer.
It emerged last week that Eintracht Frankfurt were ready to challenge Tottenham for Victor Froholdt’s signature, with a transfer battle taking shape between the two sides, both of whom will be competing in the Champions League next season.
Victor Froholdt has agreed to join Eintracht Frankfurt
Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now taken to social media to reveal that the German club have now made significant progress in their pursuit of the teenager.
He claims Froholdt has now agreed personal terms with Eintracht on a five-year deal, with the midfielder giving the green light for a transfer to Deutsche Bank Park.
However, Tottenham Hotspur may still have a glimmer of hope of clinching the deal, with Plettenberg making it clear that Eintracht are yet to strike a deal with Copenhagen.
In fact, he claims that negotiations between the two clubs are only getting started.
Why Tottenham may have an advantage in Froholdt pursuit
If Spurs pushed ahead with a move for the Copenhagen man, they might have a decent chance of beating Eintracht to the player’s services.
Given Tottenham’s strong Danish connection, with Johan Lange and now, Thomas Frank, one would think that they would be able to persuade the youngster to move to N17.
However, it is unclear if Froholdt is a priority for Spurs this summer. Based on Plettenberg’s latest update, it does not seem as if the Lilywhites have made a serious attempt to land the Denmark international yet.
