Tottenham fans receive positive sign on Cristian Romero’s immediate future
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make moves in key areas across the pitch ahead of Thomas Frank’s first season in charge, but they are currently unaware if they will need a replacement for Cristian Romero after putting a huge price tag on the centre-back.
Since Frank’s appointment was confirmed two days ago, it appears that Tottenham Hotspur are wasting no time in pushing ahead with moves for their transfer targets.
Over the last 24 hours, we have heard that Spurs have submitted a big-money offer for Bryan Mbeumo, with the Lilywhites battling Man United for the Brentford man’s services.
It would appear that the North Londoners’ priority is to strengthen their attack, as we have also seen reports that Tottenham have signalled their intent to move for Antonio Semenyo.
No club has shown a willingness to meet Tottenham’s asking price for Cristian Romero
BBC Sport have now said that Spurs are currently prioritising adding experience in central midfield and central defence ahead of their first season under Frank.
It is explained that their interest in signing a centre-back is directly tied to the doubts over Romero’s future, with Atletico Madrid still circling over the Argentine.
However, interestingly, it is alleged that Tottenham want a whopping £70m for the 27-year-old even though he has only two years left on his contract.
So far, no club has signalled an intention to meet Spurs’ asking price for the World Cup winner, according to this latest update.
Tottenham may face a tricky decision regarding Cristian Romero
According to reports over recent weeks, Tottenham have not given up hope of tying Romero to a new contract.
However, with Romero sending a cryptic message about his unhappiness at the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, it remains to be seen if the centre-back will agree to a contract extension.
If he refuses to do so, Spurs will be faced with a difficult choice and might be forced to bring down their asking price for the former Juventus man.
