Tottenham ‘agree basics’ of a deal to sign standout Euro U21 Championship starlet
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly completed the basics of a deal to sign a young Italian starlet who has been making waves in Serie A.
Thomas Frank will have his work cut out as Tottenham boss as he begins work at Hotspur Way, and his first order of business would be to oversee a mini-rebuild as he aims to get the club back up the Premier League table.
The Dane has an excellent record of working with and developing young players, which is perhaps the reason why the Lilywhites decided to appoint him as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement.
Over recent days, we have heard that Tottenham have been scouting several youngsters in the European U21 Championship, including Roma midfielder Niccolo Pisilli, and some big news has now broken regarding their pursuit of the 20-year-old.
Tottenham agree basics of a deal to sign Niccolo Pisilli
Journalist Sebastien Vidal has now taken to social media to reveal that Spurs have now struck the basics of an agreement with AS Roma for the potential transfer of Pisilli.
The youngster has been one of the brightest young talents on show in Serie A lately and was even rewarded with his first cap for the senior Italian side in their 2-2 draw with Belgium last year.
Vidal says that landing Pisilli is part of Tottenham’s strategy to recruit young talent and adds that the final details of the agreement will be hashed out at the end of the U21 Euros.
He wrote: ‘Tottenham have finalised the basics of a deal for Niccolo Pisilli. The young AS Roma midfielder, a rising star in Serie A and a standout at the U21 Euros, is targeted by the Spurs as part of their strategy to recruit young talents. Deal to watch after the tournament…’
Tottenham fans are frustrated with the club’s transfer strategy
With the Lilywhites securing Champions League qualification, fans would have hoped to see the club’s transfer policy change this summer.
Many Spurs supporters have demanded that the club sign proven performers rather than talented youngsters, like they have been over the past few years.
However, the Tottenham recruitment team will argue that it is not an either/or, and point out that the club’s acquisition of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Luka Vuskovic have proven to be masterstrokes.
