Tottenham are now confident of haggling £45m deal down to a discount
A new report has shed light on what the feeling at Tottenham is about completing a deal for Mathys Tel as the North London club are locked in conversations with Bayern Munich regarding the Frenchman.
The 20-year-old is currently in Slovakia participating in the European Under-21 championship for France, but in the meantime, his future has been the topic of conversation between his parent club and the Lilywhites.
Bayern Munich director Max Eberl confirmed that conversations are ongoing with Spurs about Tel, but refused to reveal any details about the talks.
It has been reported by a number of sources over the last few weeks that Tottenham do not plan on activating the £45m option to buy Tel and are looking to renegotiate a discounted deal with Bayern.
Tottenham are optimistic about landing Mathys Tel
It has now been claimed by i News that there is now ‘increasing optimism’ at Spurs that a permanent deal for the 20-year-old can be finalised this summer.
The report says that while Bayern were initially insistent that Tottenham had to pay £45m for the Frenchman, they have now softened their stance.
There is now thought to be some ‘wiggle room’ in the negotiations for Tel, which is what is the main cause of optimism at Hotspur Way that a deal can be agreed.
It has even been suggested over recent weeks that Tottenham may look to extend Tel’s loan along with an obligation to buy next summer.
Thomas Frank has been clear with Spurs about Tel
If the France Under-21 international does make a permanent switch to Hotspur Way, he will encounter a different manager than the one he had at N17 over the last six months, with Thomas Frank replacing Ange Postecoglou at the helm.
Interestingly, it was claimed last week that Frank had approved the permanent signing of Tel in his conversations with the Tottenham hierarchy.
The update claimed that the Danish coach sees the youngster as a good fit for his system, given his dynamism and work rate.
