Brewers Deal Potential Red Sox Trade Deadline Target To White Sox

So much for that.

A potential trade target for Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow came off the board Friday.

That’s because the Milwaukee Brewers are trading pitcher Aaron Civale to the Chicago White Sox.

ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reports the Brewers are getting first baseman Andrew Vaughn in the deal.

Just two days ago, Civale requested a trade after the Brewers pulled him from their starting rotation and moved him to the bullpen.

Milwaukee made that move so it could call up top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski. The rookie threw five shutout innings in his MLB debut Thursday, helping the Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-0.

As for Civale, the 30-year-old is eligible for free agency after the season and the Red Sox were very much on his radar.

MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported Thursday that Civale “would absolutely love to pitch for the Red Sox at some point in his career.”

Before Friday’s trade, Civale made it clear the bullpen is the last place he wants to be.

“I still feel like I have a lot left to give as a starting pitcher,” Civale said, according to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy.

“This is not a situation where I’m trying to leave this team. All the guys are great. Coaching staff is great. The players are great. I love competing with all of them. Just, I feel like I still have more to contribute and more to give to this game, and I feel I’m best suited to do that as a starting pitcher.”

Civale, a Connecticut native who played his college ball at Northeastern, is 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA in five starts this season.
