Ballon d’Or nominations date confirmed: When will they be announced?
France Football has officially announced the date when the nominees for the 2024 Ballon d’Or will be revealed. On Wednesday, August 7, the French magazine will publish the full list of contenders for one of the most prestigious individual awards in the sport of soccer.
Throughout that day, fans will learn which male and female players have made the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or, as well as other key awards to be handed out later this year. The nominations will be revealed during the afternoon, and the final awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at the iconic Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on September 22.
This edition of the Ballon d’Or will follow the same format as previous years and will feature equal categories for both men’s and women’s football. That means we’ll not only see the best male and female players nominated for the main prize, but also nominees for other awards including the Yashin Trophy (best goalkeeper), the Kopa Trophy (best young player), and the Gerd Müller Trophy (top scorer of the season).
As usual, the voting process for the Ballon d’Or will involve a select panel of journalists from around the world. Specifically, one journalist from each of the top 100 countries in the current FIFA men’s ranking will be allowed to vote (for the women’s award, only the top 50 nations are included).
Each journalist will be asked to submit a top 10 ranking of players, assigning points to each based on their placement. The player with the highest total score across all ballots will be awarded the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
The annual award remains one of the most followed and discussed events in the soccer calendar, not only because of the honor it represents but also because of the global debates it sparks among fans and pundits. With elite players like Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Vinícius Júnior expected to be in the mix, the race for the golden ball is once again wide open.
Mark your calendar: August 7 for the nominations, and September 22 for the award ceremony in Paris.
