Red Sox’s Jarren Duran Shares Change To Gameday Routine
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has been swinging the bat well over the past few weeks, and it could be due to a change in his gameday rituals.
The speedy outfielder has hit .307 over his last 10 games with five doubles and a stolen base after a slow start to the season by his standards. Over those 10 games, he’s hit the ball to the opposite field more often and used his speed to gain extra bases.
Duran was interviewed on MLB Network ahead of the Red Sox series with the New York Yankees in The Bronx on Friday and mentioned a change he’s made in his gameday routine that may be contributing to his improved offense.
“I’ve actually started working out after games,” Duran said. “Personally, it’s because I feel like I’m always wired after games.” The outfielder went on to explain that lifting weights after the game helps him calm down and get to sleep at night.
Duran started his 2024 campaign slowly as well before exploding in June and remaining hot through the summer. At the beginning of June, his OPS was nearly identical to his current mark of .747.
The Red Sox have struggled with runners in scoring position at times this season. Duran’s speed on the bases to provide additional scoring chances could go a long way in jumpstarting the offense.
Yankees catcher Austin Wells’ pop time of 2.02 is among the worst among qualified catchers. If Duran gets on pace, he should have opportunities to steal a base and put pressure on the defense.
