EN, FR, PR: Defending champions Angola held by Namibia, Lesotho win
Defending champions Angola got their HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup campaign off to a steady campaign with a 1-1 draw with Namibia in their Group B clash at the Toyota Stadium in Mangaung | Bloemfontein on Thursday.
Last year’s Golden Boot recipient Depu netted what he thought would be the winner from the penalty-spot on 90 minutes after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) confirmed the award of the spot-kick for a foul late in the game.
Depu is now Angola’s all-time leading scorer in the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup with six goals.
But Namibia would not be denied a point and Ivan Kamberipa rose high to head into the back of the net seven minutes into injury-time at the end of the game to rescue a point for his side.
The draw may be a good point for Palancas Negras in the end after they were reduced to 10 men following a red card for Randy Nteka just past the hour-mark. It was another decision confirmed by the VAR.
It is the latest battle between these two sides after they played to a 0-0 draw in their opening pool game last year, before Angola beat Namibia 5-0 in last year’s decider.
Lesotho got their campaign off to a fantastic start with a 1-0 victory over Malawi.
It was a tight contest between the teams with few chances at either end, but the winning goal came seven minutes from the end with a fine finish.
Makara Ntaitsane latched onto a flicked-on long ball and took a touch before firing the ball into the roof of the net.
There was a VAR check for offside, but the goal was awarded, sparking jubilant scenes on the Lesotho bench.
Malawi and Lesotho have been involved in six matches with Lesotho now leading the head-to-head record 3-2.
There is just a single game in the three-team Group D on Friday when Zambia tackle Comoros at 18h00 CAT (16h00 GMT).
Zambia are seven-time champions of the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup but lost all three group games last year in a shock failure.
Comoros, on the other hand, had their best finish as they ended fourth after a first ever appearance in the semifinals.
It is the second year in a row they meet in the group stages, with Comoros claiming a 1-0 victory in 2024.

Le Lesotho s’en sort, l’Angola contrainte au nul
La HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA CUP 2025 bat son plein à Bloemfontein, et la deuxième journée a offert un spectacle riche en émotions. Le premier match a vu le Lesotho s’imposer face au Malawi sur le score de 1-0, grâce à un but décisif de Ntaitsane à la 83e minute. Ce succès permet aux Lesothans de prendre un bon départ dans la compétition, tandis que le Malawi devra réévaluer sa stratégie pour les prochaines rencontres.
Le second match, qui s’est déroulé au Toyota Stadium, a été un véritable thriller entre l’Angola, championne en titre, et la Namibie. Les Angolais ont fait preuve d’une résilience remarquable tout au long de la rencontre, malgré des circonstances difficiles. Réduits à dix joueurs après l’expulsion de Randy Nteka à la 75e minute, ils ont vu leur gardien numéro 1 quitter le terrain sur blessure, ajoutant une pression supplémentaire sur leurs épaules.
Dans un retournement de situation inattendu, l’Angola a obtenu un pénalty à la 89e minute, offrant une lueur d’espoir à l’équipe. Dilson s’est chargé de la transformation et a réussi à donner l’avantage à son équipe, faisant exploser de joie les supporters présents. Cependant, la Namibie n’a pas dit son dernier mot. Ivan Kamberipa a égalisé à la 96e minute, laissant les deux équipes avec un point chacune.
Ce vendredi, une seule rencontre est au programme. La Zambie affrontera les Comores à 18h au Toyota Stadium. Ce groupe comprend également le Botswana. Campeã Angola cede empate e Lesotho marca passo!
A seleção de Angola, campeã em título da Taça COSAFA, estreou-se com um empate a uma bola frente à vice-campeã Namíbia, num jogo emocionante realizado em Bloemfontein, África do Sul. A partida, válida para a jornada inaugural do Grupo B, terminou com grande intensidade nos minutos finais.
Laurindo António inaugurou o marcador para Angola, aos 89 minutos, na conversão de uma grande penalidade. No entanto, a Namíbia conseguiu o empate aos 96 minutos, com um golo de Kamberipa. O jogo ficou marcado por decisões polémicas e momentos de tensão, incluindo a expulsão de Randy Nteka, aos 60 minutos, após intervenção do VAR.
Angola sofreu outra contrariedade aos 80 minutos, com a lesão do guarda-redes António, que saiu após uma entrada dura de um adversário. Adilson Cipriano entrou para ocupar a baliza nos minutos decisivos.
Na outra partida do grupo, o Lesotho venceu o Malawi por 1-0, graças a um golo validado pelo VAR. O atacante do LCS FC foi o autor do tento que garantiu os três pontos para a sua equipa.
Com estes resultados, o Lesotho lidera o Grupo B com três pontos, enquanto Angola e Namíbia somam um ponto cada. O Malawi ocupa a última posição, sem pontos.

A partida entre Angola e Namíbia foi uma reedição da final da edição anterior da Taça COSAFA, em que Angola conquistou o título ao vencer por 5-0 no Estádio Nelson Mandela Bay. Laurindo António, um dos protagonistas dessa vitória histórica, voltou a fazer a diferença com o seu golo na estreia deste ano.
Amanhã, o único jogo agendado será entre a Zâmbia e as Comores, às 18h00, no Toyota Stadium, referente à primeira jornada do Grupo C.
Segundo o regulamento da Taça COSAFA, apenas os líderes dos quatro grupos avançam para as meias-finais. O vencedor do Grupo A enfrentará o líder do Grupo D, enquanto o líder do Grupo B medirá forças com o vencedor do Grupo C.
A competição, que termina no dia 15 de junho, promete mais momentos de emoção e disputas acirradas pelo título.
