How Craig Breslow Addressed Alex Cora’s Future As Red Sox Manager

Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow isn’t losing faith in Alex Cora despite a sluggish start to the 2025 season.

The Red Sox, who avoided a sweep against the Los Angeles Angels with an 11-9 win on Wednesday, have lost seven of their last 10 games. Boston (30-34) trails the New York Yankees by nine games entering a three-game series in the Bronx.

Cora’s job doesn’t appear to be in any jeopardy, however. Breslow on Thursday reiterated trust in his manager during an appearance on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show.

“We’re always going to be anchored to what is best for the team, and we have a lot of confidence in Alex as the leader of this group,” Breslow said. “He’s won in Boston as a player. He’s won in Boston as a manager. We have conversations daily about everything that we can do to get us back on track. That’s where our focus is, and that’s where it will remain.”

When asked if he has “full confidence” in Cora’s ability to lead a turnaround, Breslow replied: “I do.”

“When a team is struggling like we are and is falling short of the lofty expectations that we have set for ourselves, that fans had set for us, I think we all feel a sense of responsibility and accountability,” Breslow added. “But we’ve got to figure this out, and that’s where we’re spending all of our time right now.”

The Red Sox embark on a crucial nine-game stretch of American League East action. They can make up ground on the Yankees in the first of two upcoming series beginning Friday.
