‘Important’ Man United ace is uninterested in leaving amid interest from Napoli
Serie A champions Napoli are interested in Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez.
The Italian giants are exploring the market for bargains and have identified Martinez as a target, given United’s reported readiness to slash their playing squad.
Napoli director Giovanni Manna is reportedly a huge admirer of the 2022 World Cup winner despite his fitness concern. He suffered a knee injury in February which has kept him on the sidelines.
The Parthenopeans have a good relationship with United, having signed midfielder Scott McTominay from the English giants last summer. They hope to do the same with the signing of Martinez.
Previously described as an ‘important‘ player in the dressing room by manager Ruben Amorim, the 27-year-old is uninterested in joining Napoli, according to the Daily Mail.
Martinez is determined to stay at Man United even if Champions League clubs such as Napoli show interest in luring him away from Old Trafford.
He has forged a good relationship with Amorim and is viewed as one of the leaders in the United squad.
Martinez has adapted well to playing as the left centre-back in Amorim’s three-man central defensive pairing.
The Argentine has started all but one game that he has been named in the matchday squad since the arrival of the Portuguese tactician. He has made 16 appearances and notched four goal involvements under him.
He assisted Amad Diallo’s goal against Manchester City, which was named United’s Goal of the Season, showcasing his long-range passing accuracy.
Despite United being open to listen to offers for several players, they are unlikely to let Martinez leave, considering his importance for the club.
The combative defender is on course to regain full fitness and could be back for pre-season.
