Tottenham urged to land two time Premier League champion as statement signing
Tottenham have been urged to make a bold statement in the summer transfer window by moving for a four-time Bundesliga champion who is set to become a free agent.
The summer transfer window is yet to open, but Tottenham Hotspur have already been linked with a few players ahead of its official commencement.
Leroy Sane is one name that has been floated in transfer discussions involving Tottenham, with reports earlier this week suggesting that Spurs have been offered the chance to sign Sane, after he failed to reach an agreement with Bayern Munich following contract renewal talks.
It has since emerged that the former Manchester City winger is open to a return to the Premier League and to London specifically, which serves as a significant boost to Tottenham’s pursuit.
Tottenham urged to sign Leroy Sane by former player
Tottenham supporters have made their feelings known regarding the possibility of Leroy Sane joining Spurs, with some fans arguing that the winger’s best days are behind him, suggesting that it is a move that should have been made several years ago.
Others within the Tottenham fanbase have pointed to Sane’s reported weekly wages of nearly £250,000 as being well above what Spurs typically accommodate, especially given Daniel Levy’s history with the club’s wage structure.
Despite these concerns, it has been noted that Daniel Levy maintains a solid relationship with Sane’s new agent, Pini Zahavi, who is currently trying to negotiate improved terms for his client at Bayern Munich.
Now, former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara has weighed in on the speculation, calling on Daniel Levy to make a bold move by securing the signature of the four-time Bundesliga winner.
He tweeted: “Daniel Levy sign Leroy Sane and make a statement. Big club big players.”
What Leroy Sane to Spurs could mean for Mathys Tel
Indeed, signing Leroy Sane on a pre-contract agreement would not be considered poor business by Daniel Levy, who is always looking to minimise costs where possible, particularly as there would be no transfer fee involved.
However, it has been reported that should Sane complete a move to N17, then a permanent deal for Mathys Tel would likely be shelved, with Tottenham previously said to be exploring the possibility of signing the young forward at a reduced price.
Tottenham will be playing UEFA Champions League football next season, having earned their place through Europa League success, but the big question now is whether Sane, who contributed 11 goals and six assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances, is truly the player to help elevate this side.
