Jürgen Klopp breaks silence on AS Roma reports and coaching future during Liverpool return
Jurgen Klopp has found himself back in the headlines after reports surfaced claiming the former Liverpool boss had reached an agreement to take over at AS Roma next season. During his return to Liverpool, Klopp broke the silence and addressed the rumors.
Over the weekend, Italian outlet La Stampa reported that Klopp had agreed to manage Roma and had already outlined plans to sign six players in preparation for the 2024–25 campaign. However, Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, was quick to dismiss the story — and Klopp himself didn’t mince words when asked about the rumors.
Klopp returned to Liverpool to attend the club’s Premier League title celebrations — a championship secured under new manager Arne Slot — and to participate in the LFC Foundation gala, where he was joined by a number of club legends. When asked about the Roma reports, Klopp responded bluntly: “The story about me going to be new AS Roma manager is fake news. I’m not going to AS Roma.”
The former Reds manager was also recently linked to Real Madrid as a potential successor to Carlo Ancelotti, but Klopp made it clear he’s not returning to the touchline anytime soon. “If you read any rumors about me taking a coaching job in the next few years it’s false. You can be the first to say it,” he concluded.
Klopp, who now serves as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull’s soccer group, is embracing a new chapter in his career away from day-to-day coaching. While speculation continues to swirl, Klopp reiterated that not only are the Roma links false — any rumors of an imminent coaching return are unfounded.
Klopp and a nostalgic return to Liverpool
Appointed in 2015, Klopp spent nine memorable years at Anfield, guiding Liverpool to seven major trophies and restoring the club to elite status. His tenure included a historic Premier League title in 2019–20 — the first of the modern era for the club — making this year’s title win under Slot all the more meaningful.
Asked if he planned to join the club’s title celebrations, Klopp responded with humility and affection. “I told you on my last day, from now on, I will be one of you. At the weekend, I’ll try to be in as much as you let me. I’ll try to be part of it as much as you let me,” the German stated.
He also shared a congratulatory message for the current squad — and for the man who succeeded him: “Congratulations to the team. Congratulations to Arne – especially so – what a guy, what a coach.”
