Alex Bregman Leaves Red Sox Game With Apparent Lower-Body Injury
Things went from bad to worse for the Red Sox on Friday in Game 1 of a doubleheader with the Orioles.
The slumping Red Sox offense lost third baseman Alex Bregman in the bottom of the fifth after he roped a single to left field.
Bregman ran hard out of the box, potentially looking to stretch a single into a double. As he made the turn, he quickly grabbed his legs and appeared to be favoring his left leg.
Making it even more concerning was Bregman knew right away and quickly pulled himself out of the game. He immediately motioned to the dugout after returning to first base. NESN cameras caught Bregman saying “Trainer” to the dugout before making his way off the field.
Bregman has been absolutely sensational in his first season with Red Sox. The 31year-old entered Friday with a .297 batting average, hitting 11 home runs with 35 runs batted in. He has also played impressive defense at third base, and had been a three-win player through he first third of the season.
Abraham Toro replaced Bregman as the runner at first. Once the inning ended, he shifted across the diamond to first base, while Nick Sogard moved to third.
