How Hilarious Red Sox Story Just Repeated Itself In Colorado

Apparently not much has changed for security at Coors Field since the Boston Red Sox won the 2007 World Series there 18 years ago.

The Philadelphia Phillies play the Colorado Rockies, who are on pace to surpass the 2024 Chicago White Sox for the most losses in MLB history, this week at Coors Field. Before Thursday’s game, Johan Rojas had some trouble returning to the field with security.

“An all-time moment this morning at Citi Field,” The Athletic’s Matt Gelb shared Thursday on X. “Johan Rojas went into the stands to make a phone call. Security guards wouldn’t let Rojas back onto (the) field. They did not believe he was a player. Zack Wheeler had to fetch him. Rockies forever.”

Typical behavior. Just ask Dustin Pedroia.

The 2007 American League Rookie of the Year got held up at Coors Field that October when the World Series shifted to the home of the National League Champions. Pedroia rightfully aired some frustration when security held him up at the entrance, to which the Red Sox second baseman told the staff to ask Jeff Francis who he was.

That came in reference to Pedroia’s lead-off home run in Game 1 against the Colorado left-hander back at Fenway Park. The Red Sox went on to sweep the Rockies for a second championship in four seasons.

Pedroia also had a lighter, similar incident during the 2018 World Series when the Red Sox beat the Dodgers in five games with Pedroia in the dugout dealing with a knee injury.
