Not Bruno: Ratcliffe could now sell "world-class" United star after Europa League final loss - opinion

0 18

Manchester United suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

The result could have big implications on the club’s plans for the summer transfer window.

United had the chance to qualify for the Champions League with Europa League glory.

The failure to beat Tottenham means they won’t be playing in Europe altogether next season.

There has been talk about the possibility of United selling Bruno Fernandes amid interest from Al-Hilal.

However, we believe Casemiro could be one of the first players on the firing line due to his £350,000 per week salary.

The Brazil international was a regular on the bench at the start of the year under manager Ruben Amorim.

However, he has had a tremendous turnaround since mid-February to become an integral part of Amorim’s starting plans.

Casemiro made key goal contributions en route to the Europa League final, but his future could be elsewhere next season.

It has already been claimed that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe could offload Casemiro if United miss out on European football.

The club could play as few as 40 games next season, and the revenue will be drastically reduced.

The Red Devils would have received at least £85 million with Champions League qualification next term.

With zero revenue from European football, Ratcliffe could focus on lowering the wage bill by offloading some of the high earners.

Marcus Rashford, Antony and Sancho are among those expected to head for the exit door after their respective loan stints.

United could also cash in on Casemiro rather than keeping him for the last year of his deal.

The Red Devils reportedly need £15m from Casemiro’s exit to avoid a loss under the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old has his sights on a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer.

The midfielder, described as ‘world-class‘ by manager Brendan Rodgers, turned down interest from Roma last winter with Saudi in mind.

It remains to be seen whether a move materialises.
