Exclusive: Ange Postecoglou makes heartwarming speech to families of Tottenham squad after Europa League victory

0 2

Ange Postecoglou has paid a heartfelt tribute to the families of his Tottenham Hotspur players following their Europa League final triumph over Manchester United, revealing the inspiration behind their historic night in Bilbao.

At the start of the 2024/25 season, Ange Postecoglou made a rather bold claim – “Usually in my second season, I win things.”

Tottenham Hotspur had been without a trophy for 17 years, and for Postecoglou to make such a statement was nothing short of outrageous at the time.

However, call him proud or call him arrogant, the Tottenham manager stood firm by his words, and now, he has delivered long-awaited silverware to N17.

A 1-0 win over Manchester United in Spain, at the San Mames Stadium, sealed Tottenham’s first European trophy in 41 years – a moment of glory forged through resilience and belief.

Ange Postecoglou’s touching tribute after Tottenham’s Europa League win

Following their Europa League final victory, Ange Postecoglou offered an emotional tribute to the families of the Tottenham Hotspur players, revealing the inspiration behind the win against Manchester United.

The Australian manager admitted that he has never been prouder to lead a group than the current Tottenham first-team squad.

Addressing the players’ families at a private event in Bilbao, in footage exclusively obtained by SpursWeb, Postecoglou said: “I just want to say that I made a big thing for us as a group about family this year and how important family is.

“These boys, I am so proud of them and the staff. They have been the best family that I could ever be associated with but more importantly is everyone in this room and how you have helped these boys become champions.

“They truly deserve it, they are outstanding people, not just outstanding players. I could not be prouder to be their manager, and I want everyone to enjoy tonight and what it means because every single one of you deserve it from the bottom of my heart.

“I have never been prouder to be a manager of a football club, than a manager of these players and the people with them. You, their families, trust me, I played a video before the game and it inspired them to win this game today. Every single one of them is a champion, well done and enjoy the night.”

What the Europa League win means for Spurs and Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou has proven to be a manager who understands both the tactical and emotional sides of the game, as he has managed to keep this group united despite their troubling domestic form that sees them sitting 17th in the Premier League table.

On the night in Bilbao, Postecoglou showed a tactical shift many had questioned whether he was capable of, setting his team up in the second half to defend with discipline and structure, and they delivered a defensive masterclass for 45 minutes plus added time.

Several Tottenham players have continually spoken up in support of their manager, and it is clear to see why. The Greek Australian coach has built a squad of individuals ready to give everything for each other and the badge. Now, they are European champions.
