Exclusive: What Daniel Levy said in speech to Postecoglou and Tottenham players after Europa League victory

0 4

Daniel Levy’s private speech to the Tottenham players has been revealed after their Europa League final win over Manchester United.

It was all or nothing for Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final when they took to the field in Spain at the San Mames Stadium to face Manchester United.

Tottenham delivered as expected, beating the Red Devils 1-0 and securing their first European trophy since 1984, where they defeated Belgian side Anderlecht in the UEFA Cup.

The win in Bilbao ends a 17-year wait for silverware, and crucially, guarantees UEFA Champions League football next season – a huge turnaround considering their dire domestic campaign, which currently sees them sitting just one place above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Daniel Levy’s made a speech after Tottenham Europa League win

Following the win in Spain, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy made a special address to those in attendance at a private Tottenham Hotspur party after the Europa League victory against Manchester United.

The event in Bilbao was attended by players, coaching staff and their families, alongside individuals with close commercial ties to the club.

In footage obtained exclusively by SpursWeb, Levy said: “We’re champions! This has been a very long time coming. 1984 was the last time we won a European cup, tonight we made history.

“I want to thank Ange and all of the coaching staff, all of the players. You guys have gone down in history. Thank you very much.

“This is a magnificent achievement for the club and hopefully is going to get us on the road where we absolutely deserve to be, which is at the very top.”

What Tottenham’s Europa League triumph means for summer rebuild

The lure of UEFA Champions League football is a sure advantage for Spurs heading into the summer window, who can now attract top talents to the club.

Daniel Levy has received loads of stick from the Lilywhites fans this season, with the Tottenham fans organising protests against the club’s board at various points this campaign.

Levy did stick with Ange Postecoglou even when results did not go his way in the Premier League, and that decision has been rewarded with the Australian delivering silverware.

The expectation from fans would be for the club’s chairman to build on this recent success in the summer by investing in the squad, because if Tottenham are to consistently compete at the highest level, they need much better players.
