NFL Rumors: How Patriots Voted On Controversial ‘Tush Push’ Debate

The New England Patriots reportedly were among the teams that helped save a controversial play.

NFL owners met Wednesday to vote on multiple measures. The headline for the spring meeting was whether or not to ban the “tush push,” a play the Philadelphia Eagles popularized.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the final vote was 22-10 on the proposal, which was submitted by the Green Bay Packers. The proposal needed 24 votes to pass. Schefter reported that the Patriots were among the 10 teams to vote against banning the “tush push.” The other teams reportedly were the Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans.

Philadelphia took its victory lap and celebrated owner Jeffrey Lurie and retired Eagles center Jason Kelce, who led the charge at the spring meeting to convince owners to not ban the “tush push.”

New England didn’t stand to gain from utilizing the “tush push.” In fact, the Buffalo Bills ran the play the most last season. But the Patriots were praised for not voting against the play, and they’ll try to stop it whenever they come against it.
