Guglielmo Vicario reveals which PSG star he texted ahead of the Europa League final
Guglielmo Vicario has revealed that he has been in regular contact with a Paris Saint-Germain star ahead of the Europa League final and has opened up about his parents following Tottenham on the road through their European journey this season.
Ange Postecoglou‘s men have had a bruising campaign domestically, with Spurs setting a club record for the most defeats in a single Premier League campaign.
However, all that will be put to one side by the coaching staff, the players and the fans as Tottenham look to make history in Bilbao this afternoon and win a European trophy for just the fourth time in the club’s 143-year history.
The Spurs players are determined to write their name into the club’s history books, but standing between them and the Europa League trophy is another wounded giant: Manchester United, who also find themselves needing a win this evening to salvage what has been a disastrous campaign.
Guglielmo Vicario has been texting his international teammate
Guglielmo Vicario has revealed that he has been texting his fellow Italian goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, through Tottenham’s and Paris Saint-Germain’s European journey.
Just like Spurs, Donnarumma and PSG are also looking to make history as they get set to lock horns with Inter Milan in the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena on May 31.
When asked if he has been speaking with his compatriot, Vicario responded (via Football.London): “Oh, I texted him many times to be fair, especially the last week and over the last two legs in the semi-final. I was very happy for him for the result he achieved.
“Now it is a tricky one in the final of the Champions League because I have my mates from the national team of Inter Milan on one side and him on the other side. I don’t know who I will support.”
Vicario makes admission about his parents following Spurs around Europe
The Tottenham number one is not the only member of the Vicario family in Bilbao, with his parents, Monica and Michele Vicario, making the trip to cheer on their son and the Lilywhites as they have throughout the season.
In fact, Monica and Michele have become very popular among Spurs fans, who have bumped into the pair regularly on away trips, particularly in the Europa League.
When asked if he is aware that his parents have become celebrities among the Tottenham fan base, a smiling Vicario responded: “Unfortunately, yes, but no, I am happy for them. They are enjoying this moment, they are enjoying this part of their life after 40 years of working. Now they can enjoy, and now it’s my turn to work. They can chill and they can relax.
“They have been there every time [throughout my career], they try to follow as many games as they can. They love football, my Mum as well, so yeah it is a big part of their life trying to see a lot of cities around Europe, around the UK and see as many stadiums as they can and just to try create memories for them and to share with friends.
“The biggest thing they did was to never put pressure on me over what I had to choose to do in my life,” he said. “It was just to try to find a way you can fit in, and this is the biggest gift that they never have been those kind of parents that when you are a young seven-year-old kid thinking ‘yes, my son will be the next Buffon or next Neuer’. This has been the biggest gift they gave me.”
