Tottenham fight Brighton and West Ham for £25m Napoli left-back

0 7

Tottenham Hotspur have just been handed a boost in their pursuit of a Serie A defender after learning that they can land him for a cut-price fee, but the Lilywhites have found out that they face competition from three other clubs for the player, including a London rival.

Some sources have reported over recent weeks that Tottenham are expected to sign a left-back to offer competition to Destiny Udogie this summer, with Ben Davies’ contract at the club running out next month.

It turns out that Spurs are plotting a move for a versatile and experienced Serie A full-back, who is very similar in profile to the Welshman.

It was first reported a couple of days ago that Tottenham had set their sights on Napoli’s Mathias Olivera, who is also thought to be on Atletico Madrid’s radar.

A new report has now provided an update on Spurs’ pursuit of the Uruguayan left-back, revealing that they would also have to battle two other Premier League clubs for the 27-year-old.

Tottenham can sign Mathias Olivera for a cut-price fee

It has now been reported by Wednesday’s print edition of AS (as relayed by Sport Witness) that Olivera is expected to leave the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium this summer, with a number of clubs circling over him.

The report primarily focuses on Atletico’s pursuit of the left-back, claiming that Diego Simeone’s men have identified the Napoli man as an option to bolster their backline.

The outlet claims that Olivera is a cheaper option than the other left-backs on the La Liga side’s radar since he is expected to cost just €30m (£25.2m).

However, it is pointed out that Los Rojiblancos not only face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the experienced full-back but also two other Premier League sides.

West Ham and Brighton are ready to challenge Spurs for Olivera

AS say that the Napoli man is on the radar of a few English sides ahead of the summer window, with Tottenham, West Ham United and Brighton named in the report.

These three sides are referred to as the ‘most interested clubs’ in Olivera, with the trio alleged to have asked for information about the left-back.

The publication adds that Antonio Conte’s men were trying to tie down the left-back to a new contract just two months ago, but have now changed their mind and are ready to listen to offers.
