ROSS MATTHEWS’ CONTRACT EXTENDED
Raith Rovers Football Club can confirm our first signing news of the summer, with Co-Captain Ross Matthews signing a one-year contract extension.
A hugely popular figure both on and off the pitch, Ross is one of our longest-serving players at Stark’s Park.
Having signed as an apprentice in May 2013, Ross has gone on to become a key player at the heart of our midfield, making 331 appearances to date.
Ross began his football journey with Royston Rangers and Edinburgh City before being scouted by Heart of Midlothian.
He joined the Raith Rovers Youth Academy, signing a two-year apprenticeship in 2013 and making his first senior appearance in a pre-season friendly against Sheffield United that same summer.
He made his competitive debut in May 2015 against Dumbarton, and by the start of the next season had already featured at Ibrox, Parkhead, and at home to Hibs – a baptism of fire as a youngster breaking into the team.
Since then, Ross has gone from strength to strength, becoming a first-team regular and captaining the team.
Ross played a crucial role in our 2019/20 promotion-winning campaign, and had a standout performance in the 2022/23 SPFL Trust Trophy, where he scored a stunning goal in the Semi-Final and later went on to lift the trophy.
Despite a long-term injury that sidelined him for nearly two years, Ross’ resilience and professionalism saw him return to action in January 2024 to pick up right where he left off.
He has since re-established himself as a vital part of our squad and earned the Co-Captain role through his leadership and experience.
Last season also saw Ross reach a significant milestone as he celebrated his testimonial year, marking over a decade with the club.
The year was celebrated with a series of four testimonial events, including a match against his boyhood club, Heart of Midlothian, where Ross’ contribution to Raith Rovers was recognised by fans, teammates, and opponents alike.
Everyone at Raith Rovers congratulates Ross on his extension and looks forward to seeing him back in action in our 2025/26 campaign.
