Bruno Fernandes wins Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, surprise name came third

0 3

Manchester United have officially announced that Bruno Fernandes has been crowned the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for the 2024/25 season.

The midfield maestro has now etched his name into the club’s history books by winning the prestigious honour for a record-equalling fourth time, matching the legendary feats of David De Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese magnifico has been in terrific form this season even when his teammates have had a disastrous campaign.

Fernandes has lit up the season by smashing 19 goals and recording 19 assists in 54 games across all competitions.

Amad Diallo briefly emerged as a genuine contender for the award but an ankle injury forced the Ivorian to sit on the sidelines for a few weeks.

After Diallo’s injury, it was very evident that Fernandes would bag the coveted trophy.

The second runner up was Harry Maguire who has established himself as a key player for this United side.

His resilience, vocal leadership, and clutch performances have endeared him once again to the Old Trafford faithful.

Maguire looked destined to head out of Old Trafford two years ago but he decided to stay and fight for his place.

His unbelievable redemption arc is a lesson for many players who have failed to acclimatise to the pressure of being a United player.

As for Fernandes, he now turns his focus to finishing the season on a high by lifting the UEFA Europa League trophy in Bilbao.

United face Tottenham Hotspur in a high-stakes final on May 21, with Champions League qualification and silverware hanging in the balance.

While European glory would not completely redeem their poor domestic campaign, it could offer a much-needed springboard for a fresh start under Amorim next season.
