Man Utd squad bonus revealed for Europa League glory, Spurs players to earn 3 times more - report

0 3

Manchester United players will share a bonus pool of £1 million if they beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final at San Mames next week, as per The Telegraph.

The Red Devils have had a dismal Premier League campaign. They are placed 16th in the table with 39 points. Spurs have not fared better either, as they are 17th with 38 points.

Despite this, one of the clubs will end the season on a high note. A victory in the Europa League final in Bilbao guarantees silverware and Champions League football next term.

The Telegraph now reveal that the United squad will share a bonus pot of around £1m if they qualify for Europe’s elite club competition. This is much less than Spurs’ share of £3m.

However, manager Ruben Amorim and his squad stand to benefit from salary hikes of up to 25 percent next term. The entire wage bill could reportedly increase by around £30m.

United should benefit from Champions League football

The first-team squad have vastly underperformed during the ongoing campaign. The club have already secured their worst-ever finish in the Premier League era.

The season can still be deemed a success with Europa League glory. It will set back United with increased wages next term, but it could help land top targets too.

Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres are among the leading striker targets. The latter would provide a huge upgrade in the final third for United.

The Swede has netted a stunning 52 goals and provided 13 assists this campaign. He has a shot-to-goal conversion rate of 29 percent, which is hugely impressive.

Gyokeres is familiar with Amorim’s playing style after almost 18 months together at Sporting CP, and he could seamlessly fit into the Portuguese’s plans at United.

Arsenal are leading the pursuit of the former Coventry City striker, but the scenario could entirely change if United make the Champions League. Gyokeres could give preference to United.

While Amorim has said he would prefer to sign players who don’t prioritise the competition, qualification could be crucial to pursuing most of the club’s desired transfer targets.

United will also receive a minimum guarantee of £85.8m with Champions League qualification.
