Kevin Danso reveals what Cristian Romero is really like behind the scenes at Tottenham
Kevin Danso has admitted that he is prepared to support the team in any way possible in the Europa League final, while also revealing what Cristian Romero is like behind the scenes at Tottenham.
Most people have a fairly clear idea of what Tottenham’s starting eleven for the Europa League final will look like, given how some of the club’s senior players have stepped up in the quarterfinal and the semifinal.
Ange Postecoglou slammed Tottenham’s squad players for failing to take their chance against Crystal Palace, with the Australian admitting that he wanted them to put pressure on those in the first-choice eleven ahead of the final.
However, the Spurs boss also called all members of his squad to be ready to start in Bilbao, pointing out that there is always the risk of a key injury in the lead-up to the final.
Kevin Danso is ready to give his all in the Europa League final
Danso might not have been signed by Spurs in January if not for Radu Dragusin’s long-term injury, but the Austrian has proved a very useful addition to the squad.
Not only has he performed admirably whenever he has been asked to fill in, but he has also added more leadership to this young Spurs squad.
The 26-year-old explained that he is taking his manager’s advice and is preparing to help in any way possible for the final.
When asked about the final, Danso said (via The Standard): “I’m very ready. You don’t know how many opportunities you’re going to get to play in a final, and here I am, four months here, and there’s already a final. So whatever happens, I’m ready. Whatever my role is, I’ll just be supporting the team 100 per cent and doing my best in whatever that role is.
“You’ve always got to be ready. You never know what’s going to happen, and the manager is always talking to us about taking our opportunities when they come. And whatever that opportunity is, 90 minutes on the bench or starting the game or coming on and doing a job, that’s exactly what I’m going to do and do it to the best of my ability.”
Kevin Danso says Cristian Romero could make the difference in the final
Danso also revealed that he is a big fan of Romero’s aggression but insisted that the centre-back is a very different personality off the pitch, preferring to lead by example rather than being a big talker.
The former Lens man suggested that the Argentine’s experience of big finals could come in very handy for Tottenham in Bilbao.
When asked what he thinks of Romero, Danso responded: “He’s definitely world-class. From the outside looking in, you’d think he’s very aggressive but he’s one of the calmest guys in the changing room.
“Everybody at the club and anybody who watches football knows he’s a brilliant passer and a great defender. I feel like a defender needs that [aggressive] side to him to give the strikers a bit of fear, [thinking], ‘Oh, he could come in at any time’.
“He’s a great talent, a great player. So is Micky. So is everybody at this club, or they wouldn’t be here. He [Romero] is not the most vocal [captain]. That’s why I said he’s one of the calmest guys.
“There’s different kinds of leadership, and he leads by example by the way he plays. Some are more vocal, and some just lead by example, and that’s exactly what he does. He’s a world-class player, he’s won trophies, he brings that experience, and he knows what to do in finals. In big games, he’s always there.”
