Champions League finalists have now identified €43m Man Utd flop as a top summer target
Champions League finalists Inter Milan are keen on recruiting the services of Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee during the summer transfer window, according to Italian outlet Il Corriere dello Sport.
The Dutchman joined the Red Devils on a five-year deal for €42.5 million last summer but has largely disappointed, with just seven goals to his name in 48 appearances across all competitions.
Zirkzee’s future at Man United is in doubt with the Old Trafford club already planning to sign other forwards, but he has emerged as a top summer target for Inter, who plan to propose a loan deal with an option to buy.
The 23-year-old proved himself in the Serie A with Bologna last season, and Inter are convinced he has what it takes to improve their attack.
However, the Man United flop will initially be joining them as a cover for Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez, but they believe he has what it takes to give the duo a run for their money having shown what he is capable of in the Italian top-flight.
The Red Devils will likely be open to his departure given his underwhelming performances in front of goal for them, especially in the Premier League, where he has notched three goals in 32 appearances.
They have been regularly linked with interest in Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, while a summer transfer deal for versatile Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha is said to be nearing completion.
Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo has also reportedly held talks with Man United ahead of a potential summer move, and head coach Ruben Amorim appears desperate to get his frontline firing on all cylinders next season.
The Portuguese needs to hit the ground running next season after a woeful domestic campaign, and he cannot afford to hold on to players who cannot deliver.
A temporary or permanent exit could be on the cards for Zirkzee this summer, and he would hardly be missed if he leaves.
