How Knicks Stars Reacted To Jayson Tatum’s Shocking Injury
The underdog Knicks took a commanding 3-1 series lead over the reigning NBA champions Monday night, but that wasn’t the main storyline that came out of the latest primetime tilt at Madison Square Garden.
The Celtics added injury to insult when Jayson Tatum went down with a serious-looking lower leg injury in the final minutes of Game 4. Tatum writhed in pain on the court for several minutes before he was assisted off the floor by medical staff and put into a wheelchair. The injury could prove to be not only season-ending for the six-time All-Star but also franchise-altering for Boston.
After the 121-113 decision, New York’s premier players passed along well wishes to Tatum.
“Prayers out to JT, man,” Jalen Brunson told reporters before he took questions, per an SNY video. “I just want to say that first and foremost. Thoughts and prayers with him. Just praying for the best.”
Karl-Anthony Towns added: “I’m praying for him. I don’t know if you saw me on the court — I just wanted to pray for him. Prayers for him and his family. You never want to see anybody in the NBA get hurt like that. I hope it’s something minor and not something major.”
Josh Hart, like Brunson and Towns, prioritized Tatum’s injury before he answered questions about the Knicks’ all-important victory.
“First and foremost, prayers to Jayson Tatum,” Hart told reporters. “You hate to see that. You hate that it happened. The NBA is a brotherhood, so I’m praying for him and hoping that he’s doing good physically and mentally.”
An MRI scheduled for Tuesday will give Tatum and the Celtics more clarity about the 27-year-old’s status. As for the Knicks, they can punch their ticket to the Eastern Conference finals Wednesday when the rivals meet for Game 5 at TD Garden.
