Man United set sights on ambitious finish in the Premier League next season

0 0

Manchester United are targeting a top-six finish in the Premier League next term, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils are set to finish in their lowest-ever position in the Premier League era.

They slipped to 16th in the standings after losing 2-0 to West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

If they lose their remaining two games against Aston Villa and Chelsea, they could finish just one place above the relegation zone.

The only ray of hope left for the club this term is winning the Europa League, which will secure their qualification for the Champions League.

United would claim their highest league position in three seasons with a place in the top six next season, which would bode well for manager Ruben Amorim’s future at the club.

United need a big summer to get a top-six finish next term

There is a stark difference between the United squad and most clubs that will finish above them this season.

They must bolster their squad adequately this summer to stand a chance of achieving their reported target for next season.

Amorim’s appointment has made the task more daunting, as the present squad cannot consistently deliver using his favoured 3-4-2-1 formation.

They must sign another number ten and a clinical striker to help Amorim achieve his ambitions for the club.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap are their top targets for the two positions.

They want to sign the duo as soon as possible to avoid losing them to rival clubs.

Failure to address their weaknesses will plunge United into further problems next term, which could result in Amorim’s sacking.
