Walker Buehler Update: Alex Cora Offers Timeline On Red Sox Starter
Walker Buehler won’t return as soon as he’s eligible to come off the injured list, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora has a better idea of when he will.
The veteran right-hander was placed on the injured list on May 2 due to bursitis in his pitching shoulder. He is eligible to return Wednesday, but given Buehler did not travel on Boston’s six-game road trip, he won’t start Wednesday’s series finale against the Detroit Tigers.
“It won’t be on this trip,” Cora told reporters Saturday, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Cora said it “probably” will be when the Red Sox host the Mets, a three-game series from May 19-21. Boston returns to Fenway Park on Friday for a three-game series with the Braves before hosting the Mets.
Buehler continues to progress in Boston. He played catch Friday and there’s a chance he’ll step on the mound Sunday or Monday, per Cora.
Buehler went 4-1 with a 4.28 ERA in his first six starts (33 2/3 innings) this season.
