Ex-Bruins Star Brad Marchand Drops Cheeky Line After Game-Winner

Brad Marchand had many memorable battles against the Panthers, but he played hero for Florida on Friday.

The former Boston Bruins captain scored the game-winning goal in overtime to cut the series deficit to 2-1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Amerant Bank Arena crowd embraced Marchand, who scored his fourth overtime playoff goal. Only five players scored more, including Panthers teammate Carter Verhaeghe. Marchand had a quick line when that stat was pointed out to him.

“I remember those,” Marchand told reporters, per Panthers video.

Verhaeghe was a thorn in Boston’s side during the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. He had the game-winning assist in Game 5, and the 29-year-old ended the Bruins’ historic season when he scored the game-winning goal in Game 7 of the first round.

Florida will need those heroics as it tries to even up the second-round series in Game 4 on Sunday.
