Ruben Amorim comments on Ange Postecoglou ahead of Tottenham Europa League final

0 0

Ruben Amorim admits both he and Ange Postecoglou are going through a tough time ahead of the Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham, but there can be only one winner.

Ahead of the Europa League final set to take place in Bilbao, Ange Postecoglou has called for his players to stay focused in what was an emotional post-match speech following the north London club’s win against Bodo/Glimt.

Owen Hargreaves has naively claimed that Manchester United go into the final with momentum, despite the club’s poor form in the Premier League, a form that mirrors Tottenham’s domestically.

David Bentley described Tottenham’s performance against Bodo/Glimt as “professional” and “outstanding” after the Lilywhites managed to keep the Norwegian champions quiet in their home stadium.

Ruben Amorim speaks on facing Tottenham in the Europa League final

Ruben Amorim, just like Ange Postecoglou, has been dealing with adversity since making the switch from Sporting to Manchester United.

The Red Devils boss, who has been contending with a series of injuries since taking charge at Old Trafford, has now spoken about what he expects from his United side heading into the final.

First, the Portuguese manager has made it clear that he would love for his side to go into the tie injury-free, but stressed that a club of Manchester United’s stature needs to win a final of this magnitude.

He told TNT Sports, as relayed by BBC Sport: “I am just worried about the next game, trying not to get any injuries for the final. If we do not win the final, it means nothing for us.

“We have to have a full squad [against Tottenham], stay in the game and have a bit of luck and we have to be clinical.

“It is quite similar for me and Ange. It is a tough moment for us both and one of us is going to win. It is going to be a big final and we will try to win.

“It is hard to describe what it is like to be manager of this club and you want to give them something because we were so disappointing in the Premier League. We want to give something to the fans.”

Postecoglou under pressure as Spurs chase silverware

While both managers share a few similarities coming into this clash, the situation is not entirely the same for either side, with reports suggesting that Ange Postecoglou may need to win the Europa League if he is to remain in the Tottenham dugout next season.

Football pundits Micah Richards and Alan Shearer have also tipped Postecoglou for a mic drop moment, suggesting that the Australian manager could walk away from Hotspur Way on a high should he deliver European silverware.

Tottenham supporters have expressed their satisfaction since the club’s progression to the final, with many urging their side to get the job done and win it.

A lot is on the line for both sides, but this is the type of scenario that fans dream of – their team within touching distance of a major trophy.
